Inside How New University Students Are Facing Challenges In Connection Of HeLB Loans

opera.com 3 days ago

Many students who are joining university for the first time are experiencing very difficult moments. They face numerous challenges even before they get admitted.

The process to obtain a student loan is very lengthy, and they often struggle to pay the fees, which has become a significant burden for them.

The loans provided are very low compared to the high fees they need to pay. The fees are exorbitant, and many students find it challenging to cover these costs due to their poor economic backgrounds and the lack of jobs to support them.

This situation worsened after the head of state took office following Uhuru’s departure, leading to students crying out for help over the last few years.

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), which has been offering loans to students, provides very low amounts and often delays the disbursement of funds. This delay causes students to suffer while on campus.

They struggle to survive in the hostels, often going without food, and they are not allowed to cook in their rooms. This situation exacerbates their already challenging academic journey, making it even harder for them to focus on their studies and succeed in their educational pursuits.

The combination of high fees, insufficient loan amounts, and delayed disbursements has created a heavy burden on students, hindering their ability to fully engage in their education and secure a better future.
