Council of Elders have endorsed Gen Z over their push for reform in the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Speaking at a press conference in Nairobi on Thursday, Kungu Muigai, the chairman of the council, urged the government to conduct a forensic audit following the debt crisis in the country.

"When the Kenya Kwanza government assumed office, they claimed there were empty coffers and no money. We demand a thorough audit of government expenditure and revenue over the last 15 years," he said.

Ruto's cabinet met on Thursday, and was briefed on the security situation in the country following riots of recent weeks.

The meeting at State House Nairobi, presided over by President William Ruto, was informed that, while the riots began as a protest against tax measures proposed in the Finance Bill 2024, they were infiltrated, hijacked, and taken over by criminal and opportunistic political forces.

This comes a day after a section of Senators piled pressure on the President to dismiss some Cabinet Secretaries.

Last week, Ruto declined to sign the Finance Bill 2024 following public uproar.
