ANC veteran, Tony Yengeni has hit out at speculation that state agents are going to be deployed to monitor social media users who are critical of government.

The veteran politician said this will never happen as he argued that they fought for freedom of speech in South Africa. He reiterated that they are not cowards and will continue to fight for the freedom of people to express themselves freely without fear of being reprimanded or being jailed.

"It will not happen..We fought for this freedom of speech..No one is going to take it from us..We are no cowards," the ANC veteran said.

Those who have been critical of president Cyril Ramaphosa and his administration argued that he should focus on rebuilding South Africa and not target citizens who are expressing their views on social media.

"Their project is coming right..This government of national unity is their weapon of mass distraction to keep the white monopoly capital business interest at heart," said a social critic.
