Opposition Stands Firm: National Unity Government Faces Scrutiny

opera.com 2024/10/5

South Africa is in uncharted waters as the country is under a new government of GNU. It is not even clear if this government will last for 5 years. South Africa is used to having one party that leads the country, but this time around its about 11 parties that are in government rendering uncertainty amongs citizens. These parties used to oppose each other but now they have to work together. They are actually forced to work together. The decision made by the electorate.

This is now a concern because most parties are in government now, it won't be easy for them to oppose what the government does. It's just a few parties that are in opposition. It's the EFF which is not that trustworthy because most of the times in parliament, they cause distructions and they are unruly. There is also ActionSA and we know that there is no love lost between the ANC and ActionSA, but with DA being part of the government, it's not clear as well how they will go about their opposition mission. There is also the MK Party but it has never been on opposition before and it is not clear what to expect from them. But one thing they indicated is that they will not be behaving like EFF members in parliament. They will be doing things differently.

But opposition party like the EFF is saying that they are ready to take on their opposition seat. They will ensure that the government is held accountable.

South Africans have been struggling for the longest time. 30 years under the ANC but service delivery is still a concern. It is not clear what the GNU will do for the people of South Africa.
