A Police officer narrowly escaped death after being attacked by armed goons during the anti-government protests on Tuesday, July 2.
A group of more than 10 young men armed with batons and other crude weapons. A video captured at the scene has prompted a flurry of reactions from Kenyans online.
The video shows unidentified people knocking down the police officer before attacking him with metal bars. As the officer attempts to scamper for safety, the relentless crowd corners him again. He collapses after he being overwhelmed by injuries. Amidst the chaos, the attackers are heard shouting their grievances.
Fellow officers got hold of the injured officer and rushed him to a hospital where he is recuperating. The police warned residents against taking advantage of demonstrations to engage in crime.
The increased violence and infiltration of goons have posed a security challenge for peaceful protesters. The goons infiltrated anti- government protests leading to looting and destruction of property worth millions of shillings in major towns in the country.
