Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has taken a bold stance against what she deems a gross misrepresentation of foreign travel expenditures in the region. In a recent press conference, Governor Mwangaza vehemently criticized the Controller of Budget's report, which erroneously stated that Meru County spent Sh1 billion on foreign travels. The actual figures, as clarified by the Governor herself, paint a starkly different picture: Sh42 million for the Assembly and a mere Sh910,000 for the Executive branch.

The discrepancy, according to Governor Mwangaza, not only misleads the public but also undermines the efforts of her administration to maintain transparency and accountability. She emphasized that such inaccuracies could tarnish the county's reputation and affect its ability to secure necessary funding for developmental projects. "We have a duty to our constituents to ensure that every shilling is accounted for and spent wisely," Governor Mwangaza asserted during the conference.

The Governor further called upon the Controller of Budget to promptly rectify the error and issue a corrected report to reflect the true expenditure figures. She stressed the importance of accurate financial reporting in fostering trust between the government and the people it serves. "Meru County remains committed to upholding the highest standards of financial prudence and integrity," Governor Mwangaza affirmed.

In response to inquiries about the discrepancy, the Controller of Budget's office acknowledged the oversight and pledged to investigate the matter thoroughly. They assured the public that steps would be taken to prevent such errors from recurring in future reports.

As the situation unfolds, Governor Mwangaza's proactive stance has garnered support from local leaders and residents alike, who commend her commitment to accountability. The Governor remains steadfast in her dedication to ensuring that Meru County's financial records are accurate and reflective of responsible governance practices.
