Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed deep regret over the choices made during the 2022 elections, specifically lamenting the support he extended to certain leaders from the Mt. Kenya region who have since turned against him and the current administration.

Speaking during a church service in Nyeri on July 7, Gachagua issued a heartfelt apology for his role in these decisions.

"I wish I knew," Gachagua stated, acknowledging his regret for vigorously campaigning for leaders who are now undermining President William Ruto's government. He highlighted that these individuals are complicating efforts to combat the illicit brew menace in the Mt. Kenya region.

Gachagua pointed to his local Mathira MP, Hon. Eric Wamumbi, as an example. He accused Wamumbi of ordering security forces to allow bars to reopen, thereby sabotaging the government's crackdown on illegal alcohol.

The Deputy President's candid admission and apology reflect the internal challenges facing the administration as it strives to uphold its campaign promises.

Gachagua's remarks emphasize the need for unity and vigilance within the government to ensure that public health and safety initiatives are successfully implemented, especially in regions significantly affected by illicit alcohol.
