"Mliona Penye Naweka Chumvi" Laughter In Nyanza As Babu Owino Hails Gen Zs After They Did This

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has publicly thanked the youth for their active role in advocating for change in Kenya. Addressing mourners in Siaya County during the burial of comedian Fred Omondi on Saturday, Babu Owino commended the efforts of the younger generation, particularly the Gen Zs, for demonstrating the importance of fighting for one's rights.

"I invited you to Parliament for tea. You came but you also ate ugali and rice. Did you see where I put salt and pepper? When you’re hungry, your stomach will alert you but when you’re stupid, your brain will not alert you," he said.

The backdrop to Babu Owino's remarks was a week of intense protests in Nairobi, marked by clashes between police and demonstrators. On Tuesday, tensions escalated outside Parliament as protesters opposed to the highly controversial Finance Bill, 2024, clashed with police. Law enforcement resorted to firing live ammunition after tear gas and rubber bullets failed to disperse the crowds. Several people were shot, underscoring the volatility of the situation.

Fires broke out within the Parliament buildings after protesters breached police barricades. At least two vehicles in the vicinity were set ablaze, and the chaos marked a stark contrast to the earlier peaceful demonstrations near Parliament, where thousands had gathered to urge lawmakers to reject the Finance Bill. Despite the public outcry, the bill was passed, fueling further discontent.
