After almost half a century in the public service where he first served in the Kenya Defence Forces, rising to become the Kenya Navy Commander, Major General ( Rtd) Pastor Awitta's time is up.

The former KDF officer served as Kenya Navy Commander for over four years until 2006 when he was succeeded by General Samson Mwathethe who later became the Chief of Defence Forces.

After over three decades in the military, Major General ( Rtd) Awitta bowed out of the KDF as he finally retired.

He would later be appointed to chair several boards of state corporations with the most recent being the Kenya Railways Corporation.

But in the recent changes by Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, the former Kenya Navy chief was replaced by Abdi Barre Duale, the brother to Defence CS Aden Duale.

The changes effectively sealed the fate of the retired seaman who has now been sent into permanent retirement.
