A 28-year-old man was arrested in Goodwood with an arms cache and a large quantity of drugs by the South African Police Service (SAPS). Firearms of various calibers were found, including an AK-47 assault rifle, a shotgun, and other automatic and semi-automatic firearms. The assortment of drugs was valued at R3 million.

The arrest was part of a broader operation aimed at curbing the proliferation of illegal firearms and narcotics in the area. Goodwood, a suburb of Cape Town, has seen a rise in criminal activities involving drugs and illegal weapons, prompting increased vigilance and targeted actions by law enforcement agencies. This particular bust is seen as a significant success in the ongoing battle against organized crime.

The SAPS operation was initiated following a tip-off from an informant who alerted the authorities about suspicious activities in the vicinity. Surveillance was conducted over several days, leading to the raid on a residential property. During the raid, officers discovered a hidden room where the firearms and drugs were stored. The cache included several high-powered rifles, handguns, and a substantial quantity of ammunition.

The assortment of drugs seized included cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy, and heroin. These drugs, with an estimated street value of R3 million, were intended for distribution in the local market, according to SAPS spokesperson Captain Ndabe Mbele. He stated that the successful seizure has dealt a significant blow to the drug trade in the region.

The arrested individual is believed to be linked to a larger syndicate operating in the Western Cape. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the network. The suspect is expected to appear in court soon, facing charges of illegal possession of firearms, possession of drugs, and intent to distribute.
