According to a report by Vanguard news on Thursday, 04, 07, 2024, The All Progressives Congress (APC) issued a challenge to Governor Godwin Obaseki, asserting that he should accompany his party's candidate, Asue Ighodalo, through the streets of Benin City and other parts of Edo State, warning that he might face significant backlash.

The party also urged its members still aggrieved by the outcome of the primary that selected Senator Monday Okpebholo as its candidate to rally behind the party for a united front and assured victory.

Speaking during the inauguration of the local government and ward campaign councils in Oredo local government area, Hon Dennis Idahosa, the deputy governorship candidate, emphasized that a new APC administration would build upon the achievements of former Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

This includes initiatives in flood control, rebuilding public schools, addressing insecurity and cultism, and upholding traditional institutions.

Idahosa remarked, "We want Obaseki to publicly campaign with Asue Ighodalo and see the people's reaction, just as Oshiomhole will campaign with Okpebholo. If Obaseki doesn't prepare adequately, he will face resistance because he has lost touch with the populace."

In response, Senator Okpebholo pledged that his administration, if elected, would focus on delivering tangible progress to the people of Edo State, dismissing criticisms and emphasizing his readiness to outperform previous administrations.

Sen. Matthew Uroghide, the Director General of the APC Campaign Council, highlighted the party's accomplishments and the support of current National Assembly members as factors ensuring victory.

He underlined Oredo's crucial role in Edo South politics and expressed confidence in the APC's prospects, noting the convergence of political heavyweights under the party's banner.

Earlier, Hon Osaro Obazee, Director General of the Campaign Council in Oredo, stressed the importance of unity among party members for electoral success. He emphasized the need to set aside personal grievances after the primaries and focus on cohesive campaigning strategies.
