President William Ruto has vowed to take decisive action against a police officer allegedly involved in the shooting of anti-finance bill protesters in Nairobi. The incident, which has drawn widespread outrage, was brought to Ruto’s attention during a live interaction with Kenyan citizens on X.

The controversy centers around an officer identified by netizens as Ndumba Murangiri. He is accused of killing Rex Masai, the first casualty of the protests, and has been seen in footage opening fire on demonstrators. Despite the evidence, Murangiri has reportedly been seen moving freely, raising concerns about police accountability and impunity.

During the interaction, Ruto was questioned about the apparent lenience towards the officer. Responding to the public outcry, he committed to ensuring that the officer would be apprehended and held accountable. "That is something I would want to get the exact details of who this is, and I can tell you we will apprehend and deal with him in accordance with the law," Ruto stated. He urged the public to send any photos or evidence of the officer’s actions directly to him or the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA).

The president’s pledge marks a significant stance on police misconduct, highlighting his administration’s commitment to addressing abuses of power. The move has been seen as a response to growing frustrations over police brutality and the demand for justice for victims like Rex Masai.
