Several people are feared dead following an accident involving three vehicles along the Thika Superhighway.
The accident that occurred at Ndarugo Witeithie near Mangu High School involved a school van, car and a cargo trailer.
According to eyewitnesses, a speeding personal car hit the trailer before veering off its lane. The school van, which was cruising at high speed, then rammed into the car.
Preliminary reports indicate that four lives were lost on the spot while several others were left nursing serious injuries.
Additionally, the accident caused a traffic snarl-up with motorists approaching the scene being ordered to seek another alternative route.
The bodies were moved to a local mortuary pending identification and autopsy.
