Guidelines for First-Time Applicants to HELB for Loans and Scholarships

opera.com 2024/10/6

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has recently released comprehensive guidelines for students applying for undergraduate and Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) scholarships and loans for the first time. These guidelines aim to streamline the application process and ensure accuracy in submissions.

Firstly, HELB emphasizes the importance of providing accurate personal information. Applicants are required to use a valid phone number and email address, ensuring accessibility throughout the application process. It is crucial to use a memorable password and confirm email accessibility before commencing the application.

Applicants must correctly input their KCSE Index Number and examination year, alongside current university or college details. Understanding and agreeing to the terms and conditions of both scholarships and loans is mandatory.

Moreover, applicants must notify funding agencies promptly if they transfer to a different institution or change their course of study. Keeping the agency updated with current contact details is essential for communication purposes.

To begin the application process, prospective applicants should visit www.hef.co.ke and click on the "register" button to create an account. It is essential to possess a valid national identification (ID) card. Those without an ID should avoid using another person's ID and instead use their KCSE Index Number.

Upon registration, applicants will receive an email for account activation, including a verification step via phone number. Subsequently, they should complete their profile details and consent to the collection of personal data.

Once verified, applicants can proceed to submit their loan or scholarship request, consenting to data processing by accepting the loan terms and conditions. Updating guarantor details and providing relevant loan payment information (bank or mobile payment) are final steps before submission.

HELB initiated the application portal earlier this year on June 21 for both undergraduate and TVET scholarships and loans.
