He is today ranking as one of the most powerful cops in the country. By all standards, he is the third senior most Kenya Police officer, ranking just behind the Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome and his deputy, Douglas Kirocho Kanja.

In April 2023, Gideon Munga Nyale was posted to the Kenya Police Training College-Kiganjo as the Commandant to succeed Bruno Shioso who was appointed as the Kenya Coast Guard Services Director General.

But the appointment was seen by many as a mere consolation having failed to be appointed by President William Ruto as the new Deputy Inspector General of Police to succeed Edward Njoroge Mbugua who had retired.

Despite being as a front runner for the position, Nyale was overlooked by Dr Ruto, who went on to pick former GSU Commandant Douglas Kirocho Kanja as the new DIG.

Six months earlier, the former Flying Squad Commander was once again a front runner for the position of Director General, Directorate of Criminals Investigations ( DCI). But he was overlooked!

Dr Ruto picked Mohamed Amin as the DCI boss to succeed George Kinoti who had resigned.

But with his current position which is one of the most powerful, Nyale is seen as one one of the front runners to be appointed as Inspector General of Police in future.

A sports enthusiast, the senior cop is the chairman of the Kenya Police FC which plays in the Kenya Premier League.
