Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has hit out at President William Samoei Ruto and his government for deploying the Kenya Defence Forces to deal with anti-government protesters. The former Prime Minister said that the military is meant to protect the country against external aggression and not deal with internal matters.

While speaking during the burial ceremony of Fred Omondi, the vocal leader of opposition further added that the military will not solve the anti-government issues if the police have failed to do so. He warned the government that he will issue a comprehensive statement in coming days on the next plan even as the anti-government protests continues.

Raila Odinga also informed Kenyan citizens to remain firm by holding the government accountable. He insisted that it was wrong for the state to kill the youths when they took to the streets to fight for their rights.

Raila Odinga singled out the Kenyan judiciary for allowing the deployment of the military to assist the police in containing the protesters. He said the judiciary should be blamed for allowing the military to be misused by the government.

This comes after the cabinet secretary of Ministry of Defence Hon Aden Duale issued a gazette notice declaring that the national security was at risk therefore the military will be deployed in all the 47 counties to protect lives and government property as well as restore law and order until when normalcy will return.

This is after protesters stormed into the National Assembly and destroyed properties of unknown value. They also burnt City Hall, Sakaja's office.
