A 30-year-old man was arrested for the murder of his 31-year-old girlfriend at her residence in Seshego, specifically in Lithuli Park, on Thursday, 4 July 2024, at approximately 9:00 AM. The arrest followed a tragic incident that unfolded in the presence of the victim's mother.
According to Limpopo Police Spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the morning began with the victim, her mother, and the suspect at home. The suspect then took the victim's mother's vehicle to a local tuckshop to buy cigarettes. During his absence, the victim informed her mother of the situation, prompting her to call the suspect and instruct him to return the vehicle and hand over the keys.
Colonel Ledwaba reported that the suspect complied and drove back to the residence, returning the vehicle as requested. However, the situation quickly escalated. After a brief exchange, the couple stepped outside the house. Moments later, the girlfriend came back running into the house, closing the door behind her.
In a violent turn of events, the suspect kicked the door open, wielding a knife. He then attacked his girlfriend, stabbing her multiple times in the upper body. The victim collapsed, bleeding profusely from her wounds. Despite her mother’s presence and efforts to intervene, the attack proved fatal.
Emergency services were called, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and is currently in police custody. He is expected to appear before the Seshego Magistrate Court on Monday, 8 July 2024.
The brutal nature of the crime has shocked the Seshego community. Neighbors and friends of the victim have expressed their grief and disbelief at the horrific event. The victim was described as a kind and loving individual who had a promising future ahead of her.
In the wake of the incident, Colonel Ledwaba urged the community to remain calm and allow the justice system to take its course. He emphasized the importance of addressing domestic violence and ensuring that victims receive the support and protection they need.
