Accident involving 3 vehicles on R37 in Burgersfort near Ga Mashishi Village

The South African Police Services (SAPS) in Burgersfort, have confirmed an accident involving three (3) vehicles on the R37 regional road. The accident occurred near truck depot, in Ga Mashishi Village few kilometers outside Burgersfort town. The area is home to big mining companies which results in increase traffic along the R37. The accident involved a Toyota Avanza, doublecab Toyota Hilux and a bus.

The GD6 Hilux bakkie overturned and landed with its roof in the middle of the road. All occupants of the bakkie sustained serious injuries and where rushed to hospital. The bus was slightly damaged, and passengers where treated for minor injuries on scene by the pramedics. The other vehicle (Toyota Avanza) was severely damaged, fortunately no fatalities were reported except serious injuries sustained.

To reduce traffic on the road, SANRAL has just completed phase1 of the freeway. The phase one is about 35 km from Ga Selala to Burgersfort. It's a two way lane and is capable of reducing the traffic. Upon completion the R37 will be a two way, linking Burgersfort and Polokwane.

Impala 's Marula Mine, Modikwa Platinum Mine (Which is a joint venture between African Rainbow Minerals,ARM and Anglo Platinum), Samancor is operating Dilokong Chrome Smelter and the new Mine called Lwala, ARM 's Bokoni Mine and Amplats 's Twickenham Mine which is under care and maintenance.


The road has influx of trucks transporting the minerals from the mines. Motorists are advised to be vigilant and cautious when driving in the area to avoid any further incidents.
