The bold man danced provocatively along Waiyaki Way in front of the anti-riot police who had been brought in to clear the blocked road, as captured in a widely shared video.
When we first meet him, he is sitting on a stone barrier in the midst of the busy road. He gets to his feet, constantly thrusting his hips and shaking his behind in the direction of the police officers as they approach him.
The man is seen gesturing to the police to shoot for his back once. A more experienced police officer can be seen approaching the individual and halting briefly before turning to face his other officers, not sure how to react to his actions.
Shortly before, protesters brandishing stones had thrown rocks at the police, resulting in skirmishes along the route.
Funny social media users responded to the video by claiming that the man's audacious dancing was the highlight of the July 2 demonstrations. "I'm sure even the cops are entertained," said @caroleenestherh.
