Two children aged two years died in a fire incident in their house in Kiamaina village in Nyahururu. The fire incident happened on 7th of July 2024 when their mother Susan Muthoni was in the process of preparing lunch.
The children were only two and four years old and were left inside the house as flames quickly raced round the building. There is a lot of commotion from neighbors who tried in vain to put off the fire and save the children. It also burned out to four other nearby houses which were completely gutted down.
The late arrival of firefighters in Nyahururu motivated criticism from the local people. Some residents complained to the media stating this was not the first fire incident in the area, urging authorities to look for better ways of handling such emergencies.
Community members and local officials are now calling on the county administration to post fire tenders nearer the village so that quick response can be initiated in the next mishap.
The disaster has buried the society in tears and emphasizes the necessity for the development of better fire safety and response facilities. In the meantime, while the cause of the fire is still being investigated, the disaster is a vivid example of the transience of life and the need to be ready for the worst at all times.
