This week's SmackDown featured two United States Championship matches. On the men's side, LA Knight challenged Shinsuke Nakamura. On the women's side, Michin tried to win the title from Chelsea Green. Also on the show, Tiffany Stratton addressed the WWE Universe and learned who her new No. 1 contender is—finally, an impromptu tag match between the New Bloodline and Cody Rhodes and Jimmy Uso.

The evening began with Paul Heyman, with Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett calling the action on Friday night.

Here are your winners and losers for SmackDown, January 10, 2024:

Winner: Roman Enters The Royal Rumble

Rhodes Battled Owens, Jimmy Saved Heyman

Heyman kicked off the show by inviting Cody Rhodes to the ring. He told the champion he'd earned the respect of Roman Reigns, so Reigns wanted to make sure he knew he was coming to get his title back now that he had the Ula Fala. Reigns was entering the Royal Rumble, expected to win, and would challenge Cody. When Heyman asked what Cody wanted to talk about, Rhodes was cut off by Kevin Owens.

Owens was in the crowd and said Cody was selling out again by shaking hands with The Rock and Heyman. Rhodes rushed Owens in the crowd, leaving Heyman in the ring. Tama Tonga and Jacob Fatu showed up. As Heyman was cornered, Jimmy Uso ran down and started fighting both men. Fatu shook off a chair shot and Jimmy got taken out until officials and Cody Rhodes returned to help. Fatu and Rhodes faced off and Rhodes sent him out of the ring.

This was a solid segment with a big announcement and a wild start to the show.

Winner/Loser: Michin vs. Chelsea Green

Niven Causes the Distraction

Piper Niven, dressed in a sparkly Secret Service getup, accompanied Chelsea Green to the ring as the champion was set to defend her title. This was a solid back-and-forth matchup that saw Niven cause a distraction to help Green secure the win. Michin looked like she had Green on the ropes, but as she was going to the top rope, she twice had to contend with Niven trying to get involved. Michin handled Niven, but when she went for a splash, Green rolled through and got a handful of tights to secure the three count.

This is the second-straight loss for Michin, but the end of the bout suggested there might be one more between these two.

Winner: Los Garza

Pretty Deadly vs. Los Garza

Nick Aldis made two tag matches earlier in the night, so the teams had an opportunity to put themselves in a spot to get an eventual tag team championship match. The first of two matches was Los Garza versus Pretty Deadly. Kit Wilson didn't have much going early, but Elton Prince pulled the ropes down to turn the tide.

In the final moments of the match, Santos Escobar pulled Elton Prince off the top, and the MTY slam from Los Garza for the win. Los Garza was the first to show well.

Winner: United States Title Match Turns Into Tag Team Match

Knight Wins By DQ

Shinsuke Nakamura and LA Knight had a solid match (there were missteps along the way) but it ended in a disqualification win for Knight when Tama Tonga and Jacob Fatu ran to the ring and attacked. It appeared Knight had the match won, but the New Bloodline wanted retribution from earlier in the evening when Knight took a shot at Fatu.

Cody and Jimmy ran down to save Knight, and as the two teams were fighting, Cody told Nick Aldis to make a tag match for later in the night, which he did. One has to wonder if Knight might play a role in the finish of that match when all is said and done.

Winner: A-Town Down Under vs. Motor City Machine Guns

After a Tiffany Stratton video highlight reel, it was the second tag match Aldis made to let teams move up the contender ranks. A-Town Down Under took on MCMG, and the speed of the Guns was too much until some underhanded but smart tag team antics turned the tide.

After the break, the two teams exchanged offensive sequences. The action earned the appreciation of the live crowd. The action got to the point where it was hard to keep track of who was legal. The teamwork in the bout made this match extremely entertaining. Eventually, the MCMG hit the Skull and Bones finisher for the win.

Winner/Loser: Fatal 4-Way No. 1 Contender's Match

Bayley Gets Her Shot At Stratton

Tiffany Stratton came to the ring and talked about how quickly she rose through the ranks of the Women's Division. She said she suckered Nia Jax into trusting her. She then asked who the stupid one is now. Jax came out and called Stratton and ungrateful little sh--. Jax claimed that she made Stratton and joined her in the ring. Jax said that time was up for Tiffy Time and warned she would take the title.

Bayley, Naomi, and Bianca Belair came to the ring, each claiming their right to challenge for the title. A fight started, and it was three-one-one against Jax. Stratton hit the Prettiest Moonsault Ever on the group of women all fighting in the middle of the ring. As she was headed to the back, Nick Aldis came out and decided the women would compete in a Fatal 4-Way match. Whoever won would be the No. 1 contender.

During the match, most of the competitors went after Jax. Eventually, all three women tried to pin Jax, but the official wouldn't allow it. Candice LeRae came to help Jax, leaving Bayley open to a double-team from the tag team champions. More action led to more pinning attempts that other competitors broke up. It was like a car crash, watching each competitor constantly bumping into the others.

LeRae got involved, and Belair hit Naomi inadvertently. a mess of bodies on the outside left Bayley in the ring with Naomi. She hit her Roseplant finisher on Naomi for the win. Bayley became the new No. 1 contender.

Winner: Main Event Tag Match

Cody Abandons Jimmy To Fight Kevin Owens

The tag match main event delivered solid action from start to finish, culminating in total chaos involving Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens. As the match progressed, Owens appeared at ringside, prompting Rhodes to make good on his earlier promise to fight Owens on sight. True to his word, Rhodes abandoned the match to confront Owens, leaving Jimmy Uso to face Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga on his own.

Jimmy held his ground briefly, but the two-on-one disadvantage proved too much. Ultimately, Fatu managed to pin Jimmy, securing the victory.

Meanwhile, the action shifted backstage, where Rhodes and Owens were still brawling. Their fight spilled back into the arena and into the technical area, escalating until both men sent each other crashing through tables. The show ended with Rhodes and Owens lying as officials checked on them.
