Manchester United player pulled out of potential transfer – Reason for move falling through revealed
Alejandro Garnacho was linked with an exit from Manchester United throughout the January transfer window.
The Italian press seemed sure that the Argentina international was a key target for Napoli but a move never went through. A transfer to Chelsea also never materialised.
La Repubblica, as relayed by CalcioNapoli24, have reported about some background on Garnacho’s situation at Manchester United and why his exit from Old Trafford did not happen.
The outlet believe initially Napoli did not manage to come close to Manchester United’s asking price for the young talent.
After talks resumed some days later, the gap between the two parties reduced, but at that point Garnacho’s wishes changed. There were reports that wan’t any problems in agreeing personal terms between the player and Napoli, but later his wage demands increased.
Garnacho then pulled out of the move as the Italian club could not find an agreement over wages.
The outlet are not happy with how the saga unfolded, as they describe Napoli’s chase for the Argentine as ‘useless’. They believe the Serie A league leaders could have done more to sign a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but Garnacho’s wage demands dented their hopes.
