Military hands over 330 rescued women, children to Borno government

The Nigerian military has recued 330 women and children from the enclaves of Boko Haram terrorists in Sambisa forest and on Monday handed them over to the Borno state government.

The Theater Commander, Operation Haruna Kai JST Theater Command Headquarters, Maimamalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Maj. Gen. Wahidu Shaibu, stated this Monday while handing over the survivors to the Commissioner in the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo at the Sports Center of the 7 Division.

Represented by the Chief Military Intelligence Officer in charge of civil-military relations, Navy Captain Mohammed Ahmed Abdullahi, the Theater Commander said out of the total number of the rescued women and children, 110 are women and 220 are children.

He added that the survivors were rescued by troops in Operation at Dikwa and Bama axis and profiled as well as given medical checks and treatment while  the children were given  polio immunisation  and malaria treatment among others.

General Shaibu noted that the success of the rescue mission was greatly supported and encouraged by the Theater Commander’s efforts and zeal as well the support of the Borno state government non kinetic approach which has been increasing the number of the captives rescued.

He also appreciated the efforts and support of the media to the military operations in the North East region while acknowledging the role of the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in the rehabilitation and reintegration of the reached people.

Receiving the survivors, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo who was represented by the director, Social Welfare, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Aisha Shettima, said the women and children will be taken to the Rehabilitation Center, Biulumkutu, as usual for mental or psychosocial and medical checks up and rehabilitation.
