Suwannee County deputy shot in Live Oak shooting; police actively searching for suspect

SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. — A Suwannee County sheriff’s deputy has been shot in a Live Oak “deputy-involved shooting,” the sheriff’s office said on its Facebook page Friday.

At this time, the sheriff’s office is “urging” all residents in the area of US 90 West, east of 129th Road and north of US 90 to shelter in place. The shooting happened in the area of US 90 West near Goldkist Boulevard.

The sheriff’s office says the deputy who was shot is “OK,” and that the suspect, described as a Black man wearing dark clothing, shot at another deputy. The man is armed with “at least” one handgun and is on foot, police say.

“The suspect we are chasing is suspected of shooting 4 people during a Robbery in Gads[d]en County, killing two,” the sheriff’s office’s Facebook post states. “We have a massive law enforcement response in the area containing him and apprehend him.”

The sheriff’s office says further information will be released when appropriate, and that US 90 West is closed between 133rd Road and Goldkist Boulevard for “the foreseeable future.”
