“Igbo Must Go Hashtag”: Peter Obi Breaks Silence, Speaks on Trending Videos Linking Him to Protest
Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has raised an alarm over efforts to blackmail him into conforming to certain agendas through the circulation of false information.
Obi clarified that a video of his keynote speech has been distorted to imply he declared war on Northerners, whereas he actually spoke about declaring war on economic stagnation, insecurity, and corruption.

The former governor of Anambra also explained that another video, falsely claiming he led a protest in Abuja, was edited to create a misleading narrative
In a tweet on Friday, August 2, he condemned the misinformation and alleged blackmail and stressed the importance of truth and honesty in democracy.
He also expressed commitment to a new Nigeria where justice, equity, and caring for citizens prevail over greed.
Obi also condemned threats against the Igbo in Lagos. Recall that “Igbo must go” hashtag surfaced online recently, eliciting intense reactions.
Commenting on this, the ex-governor warned that such rhetoric threatens unity of the country and violates constitutional provision of citizens.
He called on authorities to take immediate action to investigate, arrest, and prosecute those behind the agenda. He also enjoined Nigerians to stand united against divisive rhetoric.
His statement reads in part:
“Deeply disturbing, I have read genocidal threats on X against the Igbo tribe, calling for their relocation. Let me pointedly warn that such rhetoric threatens our unity and is fundamentally opposed to our Constitution.”

TheTalk.NGearlier reported that Atiku Abubakar also called on President Bola Tinubu’s government to take action against those behind the Igbo Must Go hashtag.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 1, the former vice president said Nigerians must learn from the Rwanda example and resist any divisive move.
Atiku noted that Nigeria’s constitution gave every Nigerian the right to live and work anywhere in the country, and the Igbos should not be denied that right.
