Soccer, MLS, Colorado Rapids

Former Rapids defender Daniel Chacón's contract with the club has been mutually terminated after suffering a career-altering ACL injury. He has now signed with Costa Rican top-flight club Liga Deportiva Alajuelense.

Former Colorado Rapids defender Daniel Chacón has parted ways with the club after his contract was mutually terminated. Chacón, who originally signed with the Rapids in 2022, joined the team's MLS NEXT Pro side and was immediately loaned back to his previous club, Cartaginés, in Costa Rica to gain valuable playing time in preparation for the 2022 World Cup.

In 2023, he became the first-ever Rapids 2 player to sign a first-team contract but was subsequently loaned to Liga Deportiva Alajuelense in Costa Rica for the remainder of the year. Unfortunately, Chacón suffered a torn ACL during his time with Alajuelense, requiring surgery and months of rehabilitation. Upon his return to the Rapids in 2024, he made three appearances for the second team in 2023.While Chacón appeared to be making progress in his recovery at the end of the 2024 Rapids season, ultimately his development with the Rapids was hampered by the injury and competition for positions in the team's defense. He traveled with the Rapids to Mexico for preseason training and played in a friendly match against Querétaro. The Rapids will conclude their preseason with closed-door friendlies against D.C. United and Toronto FC before beginning their season with a CONCACAF Champions Cup match against LAFC. Chacón has now signed a two-year deal with Alajuelense, one of Costa Rica's most successful clubs. He has represented Costa Rica eight times at the international level
