By falsely claiming Morka threatened his life, Obi has libelled Morka in the extreme–Umar Ganduje
According to Arise News, The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has responded to claims made by Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, regarding alleged threats to his life. In a statement released by Ganduje, he criticized Obi’s allegations as misleading and unfounded, describing them as “sheer mischief and outright falsehood.” He emphasized that such claims would have been ignored if there wasn’t a need to correct what he referred to as a “baseless narrative.”
Ganduje took issue with Obi's post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where the presidential candidate had shared his concerns about threats to his life. The APC Chairman condemned the statement, calling it a malicious lie meant to attract attention and manipulate emotions for blackmail purposes. According to Ganduje, the accusations were entirely without merit and intended solely to create a false narrative.
The claims made by Obi stemmed from remarks made by the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, during an interview on Arise TV’s ThisDay Live on January 4, 2025. Ganduje clarified that the remarks had been misrepresented by Obi, causing confusion and distortion of the actual message conveyed by Morka. He strongly asserted that at no point did Morka threaten Obi or his family, rejecting the accusation in its entirety.
In his statement, Ganduje pointed out that by falsely accusing Morka of making life-threatening remarks, Obi had not only spread misinformation but also caused harm to Morka’s reputation. He further stated that Obi’s actions had incited his supporters to issue death threats against Morka and his family, a situation Ganduje described as alarming and regrettable. He called on Obi to retract the allegations to avoid further escalation of the situation.
Ganduje’s remarks were a direct rebuttal to the actions taken by Obi in response to the comments made by Morka. The APC National Chairman’s statement underscored the seriousness of the matter, stressing that such accusations, if left unchallenged, could have dire consequences. He also reiterated that Morka’s comments were not intended as threats but were misrepresented by Obi’s public statements.
Ganduje said, “By falsely claiming that Morka threatened his life, Mr. Obi has libelled Morka in the extreme and incited his online supporters to issue death threats against Morka and his family.”
