Man Utd have re-entered the Race to sign world class Goalkeeper for just £25m ahead summer moves
United are again in the hunt for Jan Oblak, the star goalkeeper for Atlético Madrid, after learning he could be available for a cutthroat price. United extended a contract offer to David de Gea last summer, but they then withdrew it, letting him walk for free.
After losing Erik ten Hag as manager, they spent £47.5 million to get André Onana to replace him as starting left back. Since Ruben Amorim became manager, Onana's erratic play has cast doubt on his future with the team.
United are reportedly ready to launch a move to get Oblak, a player they have long liked, according to Spanish outlet Todo Fichajes. The 32-year-old goalkeeper has a substantial €103 million (£85.9 million) release clause, but Atlético is allegedly only prepared to pay €25 to 30 million (up to £25 million) to get him this summer.
United might provide Oblak a new chance to prove himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, which would satisfy his desire for "one last challenge" in his career. United supposedly tried to recruit him in January, but he was too busy assisting Atlético with their La Liga championship push to respond.
Oblak has a number of suitors, including Manchester United and teams in the Saudi Pro League. The competitive level of European football is far higher than what Saudi teams can offer him, no matter how expensive the deal is.
United may have to ask why Atlético are selling Oblak at such a bargain, despite the fact that he is a top-tier goalkeeper. It may be more cost-effective to invest in a younger goalie since they tend to have longer careers than outfielders.
Another option might be the 25-year-old goalkeeper Diogo Costa of Porto, who is highly regarded. His services, however, would necessitate a somewhat larger transfer fee.
