PDP, APC bicker over party’s internal crisis
According to vanguard, The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) were engaged in a heated exchange over the crisis within the PDP. The national leadership of the PDP accused the APC of attempting to undermine the opposition party in order to consolidate a totalitarian regime. Meanwhile, the APC attributed the ongoing crisis to the actions of the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and former governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
The PDP claimed that the APC was collaborating with agents within the party to spread a narrative of electoral guideline forgery. In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, responded to media reports alleging that some party officials were being questioned over forgery. He asserted: "The PDP strongly denies these claims, stating that its primary election guidelines have not been compromised by forgery, as suggested in the reports."
Ologunagba continued, revealing that these misleading reports were orchestrated by certain individuals within the APC who sought to tarnish the PDP’s image. He expressed shock at the level of desperation being displayed by these individuals, who were allegedly backed by a high-ranking APC official committed to destabilizing the PDP to enable the APC to dominate the political landscape. According to sources within the party, this ongoing turmoil could have serious implications on the party’s unity ahead of future elections.
The PDP also condemned attempts to manipulate police and court proceedings in Abuja, emphasizing that the nomination of candidates for elections is an internal matter for political parties, as affirmed by various higher courts, including the Supreme Court. The party warned that such actions were an abuse of power aimed at diverting attention from more pressing national issues. As the political tension escalates, both parties are preparing for what is expected to be a fiercely contested electoral season.
