I look like Lil Wayne, don’t compare me to ‘overrated artiste’ — Portable
Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, has voiced his displeasure over being compared to fellow musician Asake, particularly regarding their facial tattoos. According to reports from Nigerian Tribune, the singer, who has often been the subject of online debates, made it clear that he does not appreciate the comparisons and distanced himself from what he described as an "overrated artiste."
The issue arose after Asake, who is known for his distinct style and musical hits, recently posted pictures on Instagram showcasing his new tattoos. The tattoos, which include dollar signs and the word "Believe," sparked reactions from his followers, with some noting similarities between his look and that of Portable, who is also known for his facial tattoos.
In response, Portable took to his Instagram page in a video, expressing his frustration with the comparisons. He emphasized that his style was inspired by American rapper Lil Wayne, not Asake, and stated that there should be no further comparison between the two artists. “Don’t compare me to Asake. I don’t look like Asake. I look like Lil Wayne. Stop comparing me to an overrated artiste,” he said in the video.
Portable further defended his international appeal, claiming that he is making money from major international sources, such as Sony, and not from local platforms like Empire, which he implied were tied to Asake’s success. "I am spending Sony’s money, not Empire’s money. I am an international artist," Portable declared confidently.
The singer also addressed the notion of being underrated in the Nigerian music industry, countering the critics who label him as such. “You call me an underrated artist, you underrate, but see where I am and where you are,” he added, implying that his success speaks for itself.
