Nigerian Senator Shehu Sani has stirred a significant conversation on the political trajectory of Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traore.

Through his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Sani drew parallels between Traore and the late Captain Thomas Sankara, a revered revolutionary leader of the 1980s.

Reflecting on the events of 1987, Sani recounted how Sankara, celebrated for his radical reforms and anti-imperialist stance, was overthrown and assassinated in a coup. Sankara’s leadership had inspired the youth across Africa, marking him as an icon of progressive governance. However, his untimely demise left a deep scar on Burkina Faso’s political history.

Sani expressed concerns that Traore, who assumed power in a 2022 coup, might face a similar fate. "The forces that evicted Sankara and their 'running dogs' are still much around," he warned, suggesting that the same adversarial forces responsible for Sankara's downfall could threaten Traore.

He emphasized the need for divine protection for Traore, urging vigilance against external and internal political pressures.
