Human rights advocate Dele Farotimi reminisced about a past era in Nigerian history when governors led simpler lives, as depicted in a Sahara TV documentary. He referenced Lateef Jakande, the former governor of Lagos State (1999-2007), highlighting Jakande's modest lifestyle, residing in his personal home in Ilupeju and cruising around in a Toyota Crown.

Farotimi contrasted this with the current trend of governors appropriating state resources for personal use without any oversight, living lavishly in properties like Bodilon, and even cordoning off entire streets.( Photo credit : Arise Television Official Facebook Page )

As per Sahara TV, he remarked, "IOnce upon a time in this country, we had a governor (like Lateef Jakonde) who lived in his private house at Ilupeju, rode around in a Toyota Crown, oversaw the affairs of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, and became the Godfather of Lagos," he claimed. It did not suffice for him to have a spot on Bodilon. Years later, for his own provision, they were forced to very much seal off an entire street. They belonged to the state. It did not matter.
