According to Punch Newspapers, Former Vice President and 2023 Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to embody the “Nigeria First” principles it advocates, emphasizing the need for national unity rather than self-interest and divisive rhetoric.

Atiku’s statement came in response to a post by Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Public Communication and Orientation, on X (formerly Twitter). In his post, Dare dismissed a recent gathering of opposition figures and dissenting members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a politically motivated move driven by Machiavellian interests. He asserted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remained “undistracted and unperturbed” by such gatherings, framing the upcoming political contests as a “combat” and a “fight” in preparation for the 2027 elections.

He said: “The government must focus on uniting and healing the nation, and avoid making thoughtless comments about other countries or questioning the patriotism of the Nigerian people.”
