According to a Vanguard Newspaper report, a pro-government rally, organized by the Tinubu Support Group, took place at the Tinubu/Shettima campaign office in Abuja, showcasing a stark contrast to the anti-government protests being held across the country.
The demonstration was marked by a calm and orderly atmosphere, with participants wearing branded T-shirts and face caps. Led by Minister of State for Police Affairs, Hajia Iman Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the rally highlighted the divided political landscape.
In a parallel demonstration, hired protesters emerged, carrying placards reading "No Protest." Organized by Blessing Joel, these individuals were paid ₦5,000 each to participate. Many came from the suburbs, revealing how financial desperation influences political demonstrations.
Gabriel, an unemployed man from the capital, admitted to joining the pro-government rally for the N5,000 offered. "I know things are bad in the country and the economy is not working, but the money was a big reason why I joined them," he said. This highlights how economic hardship often sways political participation.
While some protest out of conviction, others are driven by financial necessity. The pro-government rally and the hired protesters demonstrate how political participation can be influenced by various factors, including economic desperation.
