Rayo Vallecano extended their unbeaten record against Celta Vigo at the Estadio de Vallecas to 14 matches with a 2-1 victory, marking a perfect start to their 2025 league campaign.

The hosts needed fewer than five minutes to open the scoring when Guaita made a costly error, allowing Adri Embarba to tap the ball into an empty net. Embarba nearly doubled his tally soon after, but Guaita redeemed himself with an outstanding save to prevent a second goal. However, the visitors responded in the 26th minute when Jonathan Bamba assisted Borja Iglesias, who slotted home from close range to equalize.

The first half ended with Rayo pushing for another goal, with Guaita once again performing admirably to keep the score level, including a stunning save from a Sergio Camello header.

The second half saw Celta push for the lead, and Franco Cervi tested Rayo goalkeeper Daniel Cárdenas with a powerful shot, which Cárdenas managed to save. Rayo, however, regained the advantage in the 63rd minute when Jorge de Frutos found the back of the net at the near post, beating Guaita to restore his team’s lead. Celta’s frustration mounted as they were denied an equalizer late in the game when Williot Swedberg’s header was deflected off Cárdenas' forehead.

The visitors’ woes deepened in stoppage time when Marcos Alonso was shown a second yellow card, reducing them to 10 men. Rayo's 2-1 victory lifted them into the top half of the table.
