Politics is war, If my strategy weakens my opposition, where should it concern me? — Ajibola Basiru

In a revealing interview with Arise TV, Senator Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), shared his insights on the state of Nigeria’s power sector and the competitive nature of politics in the country.

He lamented that the power sector could have been significantly more efficient had there been a transparently decentralized approach to electricity transmission, generation, and distribution since 1999.

Basiru argued that such a model would have greatly improved the nation’s ongoing struggles with power supply and distribution, which remains a pressing issue for many citizens.

Responding to criticisms directed at the APC, particularly claims of suppressing opposition voices, Basiru confidently refuted these allegations.

He emphasized that under President Bola Tinubu, the APC has engaged constructively with opposition governors and stated that the party does not interfere in the internal matters of other political entities.

Reflecting on the political climate, he articulated a candid view of its nature, stating, "Politics is war by another means. If my strategy weakens my opposition, where should it concern me?"

This phrase encapsulates the fierce competition inherent in Nigerian politics, where parties are often more concerned with gaining the upper hand than fostering collaboration.

Basiru’s remarks not only clarify the APC's political strategy but also shed light on the broader dynamics influencing governance in Nigeria.
