Delta State Police have arrested two notorious tricycle thieves who specialized in stealing phones from unsuspecting passengers using a deceptive coughing distraction. The arrest was announced by SP Bright Edafe, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, on his verified X handle.

In a video posted online, two victims recounted their experiences. They explained that one suspect, pretending to be a passenger, would start coughing excessively to distract the target. Meanwhile, the tricycle rider would increase speed, making the victim less aware of their surroundings. In the confusion, the coughing accomplice would stealthily steal the passenger's phone before they were forced out of the vehicle.

Both victims revealed that the same tactic was used to rob them in Delta State. One of the suspects, who identified himself as "America," admitted his involvement but expressed regret over his arrest. He advised passengers to always hold their phones firmly while in tricycles.

SP Bright Edafe warned commuters to remain vigilant while using public transport, emphasizing the importance of securing their belongings. The Delta Police Command has assured the public that efforts are ongoing to crack down on similar criminal activities in the state. Share this information widely with others. Watch the video here
