Kidnappers flee during police chase, abandon abducted ASP, two others on the road
According to the Edo State Police Command in a statement late on Monday night, some kidnappers fled and abandoned their three victims, including an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and two other residents who boarded a Toyota Sienna on their way to Onitsha, Anambra State.
The Public Relations Officer of the state police command, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, who posted the statement on his X handle, disclosed that the three victims were abducted by the kidnappers along the Okhuesan-Ewohimi Road in Edo State.
According to the Police PRO, operatives of Ubiaja Divisional Headquarters, in a joint operation with other tactical teams went on the trail of the kidnappers following an order given by the Commissioner of Police in the state who also gave instruction for additional deployment of Police Mobile Force.
He wrote: "The team, acting on intelligence reports, mobilized to the bushes around Ugbebor in partnership with local hunters and vigilantes. This effort paid off as the kidnappers abandoned their victims and fled when they sensed that the operatives were closing in on them.
"Those rescued included ASP Elisha Jeremiah attached to Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, Oyedele Ebenezer of Ogbidi Road, Uromi and Useni Malam Inusa."
The Police PRO added that the rescued victims are currently receiving treatments at a hospital and are expected to be reunited with their various families as soon as possible while a manhunt had been launched for the kidnappers.
